The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) has been working for a nuclear free future since 1958, and remains one of the largest membership organizations in the country. We campaign peacefully to rid the world of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, and to create genuine security for future generations.

Aberdeen CND is a new group formed in January 2007. We are an active band of volunteers who meet regularly to arrange anti-nuclear activities.

Our first activity was organizing a public meeting with Bruce Kent, one of Britain’s leading peace campaigners. In February 2007, Bruce addressed a large audience in Aberdeen on the question of Trident replacement. Following this, we attended the Glasgow and Edinburgh Anti-Trident Demonstrations, we went to Faslane to blockade the base and we staged a demonstration outside a local MP’s offices. For Hiroshima Day in August 2007, we sent 200 peace lanterns down the River Dee, attracting a large crowd of supporters.

This year we participated in the protests at Aldermaston, Glasgow and Faslane.  We also hosted CND Chair Kate Hudson at a public meeting in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen CND group hold regular stalls and do leafleting in Aberdeen.  We meet monthly, on the second Monday of each month at 6.30 p.m. in the meeting room on the top floor of the Belmont Picture House, Belmont Street, Aberdeen.  (Full access available).

All are welcome to attend these meetings.  Come along to discuss the issues and help plan the next campaigns.
